Telangana Reuters, Hyderabad, August 20, 2026: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a 10-day Special Monsoon Drive across the city, with intensive civic and sanitation activities being taken up in 30 wards on the first day. The drive focused on improving sanitation, clearing water logging points, strengthening public health measures and creating awareness among citizens.
On Day 9, GHMC teams removed 40.30 MT of legacy municipal solid waste (MSW) and 15.80 MT of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. As part of monsoon preparedness, 109 potholes were filled, 161 catch pits cleaned and 9 culverts cleared, while 7.3 MT of floating material and silt was removed.
A total of 10 rainwater harvesting structures were initiated, and 5 non-residential buildings were surveyed. GHMC also inspected 8 public toilets and installed 56 commercial bins at shops to improve waste management.
Public awareness initiatives included 5 BWG awareness meetings, 4 BWG registrations and IEC/training sessions covering 12 schools with 719 participants. Health and veterinary activities included 507 IEC activities, pyrethrum spraying done at 324 and vaccination/shelter-transfer measures for stray dogs.
Further, 365 Indiramma sarees were distributed, 10 SHG women awareness camps were conducted with 37 participants, and 18.9 MT of pruned tree branches and 5.4 MT of dry/green waste from 29 parks were lifted.
The Special Monsoon Drive reflects GHMC’s commitment to maintaining a clean, healthy and monsoon-resilient Hyderabad.
