Telangana Reuters, Hyderabad, 03rd August, 2026 : India has taken another significant step forward in the realms of clean transport, indigenous technology, and green energy. The homegrown major, KETO Motors’ (Olectra), has successfully launched its first commercial electric bus. This 9-meter electric bus was designed specifically keeping in mind the country’s traffic conditions and commuting needs. On this occasion, the Minister congratulated the engineers, management, and employees who played a pivotal role in the bus’s design and development.
This event highlighted the remarkable transformation the country is witnessing in manufacturing, technology, green energy, and innovation under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
India has risen from a time when it had to wait decades for essentials like vaccines to a position where it developed its own COVID-19 vaccine and supplied it to over 60 countries – even ahead of developed nations. This same spirit of Atmanirbharata (self-reliance) is now clearly evident in the automobile sector as well.
Centre’s Full Support for the Electric Vehicle Sector Electric mobility is not merely an alternative to petrol and diesel vehicles. Strong foundations are being laid for the country’s energy security, pollution control, import reduction, and technological self-reliance.
The Central Government is comprehensively developing every aspect of the electric vehicle ecosystem—ranging from manufacturing and batteries to charging facilities, research, and skill development.
Regarding clean energy and the role of PSUs, the government is making massive investments in solar, wind, hydro, and green energy corridors to ensure that the electricity powering electric vehicles is also derived from clean energy sources.
Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like Coal India and Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) are fulfilling their national responsibilities by expanding into solar, floating solar, and pumped-storage sectors alongside their traditional coal production operations.
Critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and copper—which will serve as the backbone for future sectors like electric vehicles, solar panels, semiconductors, defense, and AI—hold strategic importance comparable to that of oil.
With this in mind, the Modi government has launched the ‘National Critical Minerals Mission’ with an outlay of ₹34,000 crore. Telangana as a Technology and Innovation Hub. Telangana is transforming into a hub for electric mobility, electronics, and semiconductor design, alongside its established strengths in pharma, IT, and defense. International semiconductor companies are setting up design centers in Hyderabad, and young Telugu engineers are developing world-class chips. Substantial financial incentives are being provided for chip manufacturing, research, and design through the ‘Semicon India Program’ introduced by the Central Government.
India, A Leader in the Electronics Sector :
India ranks second globally in mobile phone manufacturing. Today, 99.2 percent of the smartphones used in the country are manufactured domestically.
Electronics manufacturing has increased sevenfold and exports elevenfold, with the sector providing employment to approximately 2.5 million people.
The Central Government is extending full support to the electronics sector through PLI schemes and stable industrial policies.
Competing globally and surging ahead with excellent infrastructure and road networks, India is marching towards the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat – 2047’ (Developed India – 2047).
