Kakinada, August 29: National Sports Day—marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand—and Telugu Language Day were celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU) MSN Campus in Kakinada.
Campus Principal Professor Prashanthi Sri attended the event as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, she emphasized that sports play a pivotal role alongside academics in the holistic development of students. She urged students to move forward with discipline and determination, drawing inspiration from the sporting contributions Major Dhyan Chand made to the nation.
Dr. Manikireddy Satyanarayana, Chairman of the Dr. Manikireddy Healthcare Foundation, participated as a special guest. He spoke about the greatness of the Telugu language and stated that everyone bears the responsibility of passing on Telugu literature and culture to future generations. He highlighted the need to foster respect for one’s mother tongue while also expanding the use of Telugu in the fields of modern education and technology.
During the event, the students were apprised of Major Dhyan Chand’s sporting prowess, his service to the nation, and the spirit of sportsmanship. Speakers included Dr. Harinath Raja and Dr. Namashivaya Garikapati highlighted the significance of Telugu Language Day and called upon the youth to play a more active role in the preservation, development, and propagation of the Telugu language. Subsequently, prizes were awarded to students who had won in the various sports competitions organized to mark the occasion.
Faculty members, students, and staff participated in the event, contributing to its success. The program was notable for fostering both a spirit of sportsmanship and a love for the mother tongue among the students.
